Working Process of Steam Condenser:

  • Expansion Steam after it passes into the condensing of the condenser: The steam acquired through turbine exhaust moves in the shell of the condenser where the procedure of condensation is initiated.
  • Steam Contacts Cooling Tubes: The steam meets tubes containing either cooling water (water-cooled) or in contact with cooling air (air-cooled).
  • Heat Transfer Occurs: As steam comes in contact with the tube walls, it transfers latent heat through the tube material to the surrounding cooling medium.
  • Steam Condenses to Liquid: Removal of heat causes condensation, converting steam to liquid condensate while maintaining a vacuum within the shell.
  • Condensate Collection: Water condensed in the shell collects at the bottom and is removed through the hot well for recirculation to the boiler/feed water circuit.
  • Cooling Medium Exit: The cooled water is expelled as warm cooling water and this may be passed into a cooling tower or pass through a heat exchanger or in air cooled systems the warmed air is sent into the atmosphere.
